New York: Vertical City

Here we are! After a bit more than a month, I finally managed to sort out the photos of my trip to New York. It was no easy task, not only because there were many photos, but also because I started thinking that chronologically publishing my touristy wanderings would actually be of little interest. Day one of sightseeing in New York, day two of sightseeing in New York, etc. Alright, you've got the idea. But it was quite challenging to try and come up with a more "thematic" approach, I've got to admit. Let's hope the wait -and the work- were worth it!

The first theme has to be the most obvious one: New York, vertical city... if any! Every walk I took in Manhattan was a potential threat for my neck. Of course, it was my first trip to New York so as any new comer to the city, I just spent most of my time looking up -and feeling so incredibly small. But my very first impression of the city was a strange mixture of disproportion and familiarity. To an European eye, any city in the States looks huge, with no common measure with what we are used to. I had the same feeling in Los Angeles last year, of course. But contrary to LA, I never felt really lost in New York and like I said, it almost looked familiar. Actually, it did look familiar. How could it be otherwise? After all, we're talking about a city that has become a protagonist of our lives in so many ways. If you've never been to New York, maybe this first series of photos will make you feel the same way.
